Dechert has added Ben Burton as a partner in its global finance practice in London, strengthening the firm’s leveraged finance, private equity, and restructuring capabilities.
Burton brings more than a decade of experience advising across the UK, European, and U.S. markets, including time spent working in New York. His practice focuses heavily on sponsor-side leveraged finance and European acquisition finance transactions.
His experience spans both syndicated lending and direct lending markets, positioning him to support private equity sponsors and other clients on acquisition financings, mergers and acquisitions, and related capital structures. Dechert said Burton’s background will also strengthen coordination between its leveraged finance, restructuring, and capital solutions practices.
Burton also brings restructuring experience, which the firm sees as increasingly important as transactions become more complex and require customized financing structures.
The appointment is part of a broader lateral hiring push at Dechert. The firm has added more than 50 lateral partners this year as it expands across finance and restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and securitization, investment management, and litigation.
Dechert’s global finance practice includes more than 200 lawyers and advises across areas including asset-backed securitizations, commercial mortgage-backed securities, CLOs, commercial real estate finance, fund finance, leveraged finance, direct lending, private credit, residential mortgage finance, structured credit, derivatives, and fintech.
The firm operates across major global financial centers and focuses heavily on financial services, private capital, real estate, life sciences, and technology.
