Delta Air Lines announced a series of executive leadership changes as longtime operations leader John Laughter prepares to retire after more than three decades with the company. The moves are designed to strengthen Delta’s leadership team and support the airline’s long-term strategy.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian informed employees of the changes in a memo outlining updates to the executive structure. The company said the leadership shifts aim to position Delta for continued growth while reinforcing operational alignment across the organization.

Peter Carter has been promoted to president and will take on a broader role driving enterprise strategy. In addition to overseeing global policy and legal matters, Carter will also manage Delta’s international portfolio along with its real estate, sustainability, and diversity teams.

Laughter will retire as executive vice president, chief of operations, and president of Delta TechOps effective April 30. He joined Delta more than 30 years ago as an aircraft liaison engineer and later rose to oversee the airline’s global operations.

Following Laughter’s retirement, Dan Janki will become chief operating officer. In that role, he will oversee Delta’s operational divisions, including airport customer service, flight operations, in-flight service, the operations and customer center, reservation sales and customer care, technical operations, and corporate safety, security, and compliance.

Alain Bellemare, executive vice president and president of international, will also take on the additional responsibility of serving as chairman of Delta TechOps.

Erik Snell will become Delta’s new chief financial officer. Snell has spent two decades with the airline in finance and operational leadership roles and most recently served as chief customer experience officer. In his new role, he will oversee the company’s finance organization as well as fleet and supply chain operations and refinery subsidiary Monroe Energy.

Meanwhile, Alicia Tillman will step down as chief marketing officer to pursue other leadership opportunities. Ranjan Goswami will assume the role of chief marketing and product officer, continuing oversight of Delta’s brand and product strategy.

Carter, Janki, Snell, and Goswami will report directly to CEO Ed Bastian as part of the restructured leadership team.
