Delta Expands Basic Fare Options To Premium Products

Delta announced the expansion of its Basic fare experience to premium products. Starting July 8, the airline is offering Basic fares for Delta First, Delta Premium Select, and Delta One in select markets.

The expansion follows Delta’s introduction of new product travel names and experiences last year, along with the rollout of the Basic tier to Delta Comfort last fall. Delta said the move gives customers more choice and a way to access premium onboard products at a lower price point.

The Basic tier provides the same onboard premium experience as Classic and Extra fares, but with trade-offs. These include seat assignments after check-in, reduced checked bag allowance, lower mileage earn, no complimentary or paid upgrades, no same-day confirmed or standby travel changes, and changes or cancellations for a fee.

For Delta One, the entry-level fare will be called Basic Business. The ticket includes the full onboard Delta One experience, including Zone 1 boarding, lie-flat seats, elevated meals, hot towel service, plush bedding, and a Missoni amenity kit.

However, Basic Business does not include the non-flight elements typically associated with Delta One, such as Delta One check-in and Delta One Lounge access. Customers will need to buy Delta One Classic or Delta One Extra to access those benefits through their purchased fare.

Delta said customers flying Basic Business will temporarily retain access to Delta One check-in, Delta One Lounge, and Delta Sky Club access through January 18, 2027, as travelers adjust to the new fare parameters. After that date, travelers on Delta First Basic, Delta Premium Select Basic, or Basic Business may access Delta Sky Clubs through other eligible credentials, such as a Sky Club membership or qualifying credit card.

Basic tickets can be changed or canceled for a fee, with customers receiving an eCredit for future Delta ticket purchases. Checked bag allowances for Basic fares will vary by market but typically include one fewer bag than comparable Classic fares on routes where complimentary checked bags are offered.

Delta First Basic is available and flying in select Delta-operated domestic and Latin markets starting July 8. Delta Premium Select Basic and Basic Business are available for purchase starting July 8 and will begin flying in September for domestic and select long-haul international markets.
