Dentons Adds Ed Hunnisett As London Pensions Partner

Dentons has recruited Ed Hunnisett as a partner in its Employment and Pensions practice in London, expanding the firm’s capabilities as employers and trustees address increasingly complex pension scheme decisions.

Hunnisett joins Dentons from Slaughter and May, where he spent eight years as Senior Counsel.

Before joining Slaughter and May, he spent 15 years at Norton Rose Fulbright.

Hunnisett brings more than 20 years of experience advising employers and trustees across a broad range of pension matters.

His practice covers scheme surpluses, investments, governance, buy-ins and other complex strategic projects.

He also has experience leading multidisciplinary teams on significant mandates involving multiple legal and commercial issues.

Hunnisett’s transactional practice includes complex corporate deals and multi-jurisdictional M&A, giving Dentons additional senior-level capability where pension obligations intersect with corporate transactions.

He will also advise clients on broader governance, advisory and transactional issues involving pension schemes.

The appointment adds senior expertise to Dentons’ UK Pensions team as employers, trustees and sponsors evaluate long-term strategies around funding, investment, risk transfer and the use of scheme surpluses.

KEY QUOTES:

“Pensions represent some of the most significant long-term financial commitments facing businesses, and the decisions being made by employers and trustees today can have substantial strategic consequences. Ed’s appointment strengthens our ability to help clients navigate those challenges. His arrival will also enhance the support our Pensions team provides on major corporate and cross-border mandates, where pensions issues are often an important part of the overall deal strategy.”

Paul Jarvis, CEO of Dentons’ UK, Ireland and Middle East Region

“This is a particularly interesting time for the pensions market. Many schemes and their sponsors are considering fundamental questions about their long-term strategy, requiring legal advisers to offer both deep pensions expertise and an understanding of the wider commercial objectives of employers and trustees. Ed brings that combination. His recruitment is an important investment, adding further senior capability as we continue to grow the practice.”

Eleanor Hart, Head of Dentons’ UK Pensions Team

“Clients with complex and strategically sensitive pensions matters require advice on the intersection of legal, regulatory and commercial considerations. Dentons excels in this area and has a reputation in the market for combining deep UK pensions expertise with seamless international delivery. I’m looking forward to joining such a highly regarded team.”
