Dentons announced that Kristyn Annis has joined the firm’s Toronto office as a partner in its Corporate and Energy groups, strengthening its capabilities in power and utilities, renewable energy, and energy transition-related matters. The move reflects Dentons’ continued expansion of its national energy practice as demand grows for legal expertise across evolving regulatory frameworks, decarbonization initiatives, and infrastructure development.
Annis brings more than two decades of experience advising utilities, project developers, lenders, municipalities, and government entities on commercial transactions and mergers and acquisitions in the energy sector. Her work spans renewable generation, electricity transmission and distribution, and emerging technologies such as electric vehicles, distributed energy resources, energy management solutions, and energy storage.
She also advises clients on carbon and environmental markets, including emissions allowances, carbon offsets, and renewable energy certificates, as well as broader regulatory regimes tied to greenhouse gas policies. Her background includes advising senior government leaders on energy policy, emissions trading, and climate change, which informs her current work helping clients navigate regulatory and ESG considerations.
Dentons noted that Annis’ addition enhances its ability to support clients across the energy value chain, from project development through investment and operation. Her arrival follows other recent additions to the firm’s energy team, including Peter Bryan and Peter Allegretto in Calgary, as the firm continues to deepen its expertise in the sector.
The firm emphasized that Canada’s energy landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by regulatory shifts, decarbonization efforts, and large-scale infrastructure development. Dentons, which was recognized as Natural Resources Law Firm of the Year in the 2026 edition of Best Law Firms—Canada, continues to position itself as a key advisor to organizations navigating these changes.
