Dentons Adds Former Bundestag Member Stefan Kaufmann To Energy Team In Germany

Dentons announced that Dr. Stefan Kaufmann has joined the firm’s Energy group in Germany as Of Counsel in its Berlin office.

Kaufmann was a member of the German parliament, the Bundestag, for 13 years until March 2025. He also served as the Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s Innovation Commissioner for Green Hydrogen from summer 2020 to August 2022.

In that role, Kaufmann contributed to the implementation of the German government’s National Hydrogen Strategy.

Kaufmann brings experience across energy policy, regulation, decarbonization, and industrial transformation. Dentons said he will support the continued expansion of its Energy group through his knowledge and network across business, politics, and industry associations.

His work will focus on helping clients expand production capacity for green hydrogen, establish storage and transport infrastructure, and deploy hydrogen technologies across the value chain.

Kaufmann also brings experience working with ministries and authorities on the planning, approval, and implementation of major infrastructure projects.

Dentons’ Energy team advises clients on legal and energy policy developments as well as transactions in the sector. The team is part of Dentons’ global Energy group, which includes more than 1,000 lawyers, including over 150 in Europe and 15 in Germany.
