Dentons Canada Adds Real Estate Partner Michael Kershaw In Toronto

By Amit Chowdhry ● May 12, 2026

Dentons Canada has announced the arrival of Michael Kershaw as a partner in its national Real Estate group, further expanding one of the firm’s most active practice areas. The addition follows the recent arrival of Kamil Umar as a partner in the Calgary Real Estate group, strengthening the firm’s national real estate platform across both financing and development capabilities.

Kershaw brings a distinctive combination of private practice, in-house corporate, and public sector experience that the firm said gives him a uniquely well-rounded perspective on real estate transactions. Prior to joining Dentons, he was a partner at a leading national law firm. He has also served as assistant general counsel of a private Real Estate Investment Trust and as associate city solicitor for a large Ontario municipality — experience that informs his understanding of the institutions and organizations that shape real estate markets.

His practice spans the full spectrum of real estate transactions with particular strength in complex financing structures, project and construction financings, commercial mortgage lending, and property development across a broad range of asset classes, including multifamily housing, condo construction, industrial and residential subdivisions, self-storage, hospitality properties, office, and commercial properties.

KEY QUOTES:

“What sets Michael apart is that he doesn’t just understand real estate transactions — he understands the institutions, organizations and municipalities that shape them. That perspective aligns directly with what our clients are navigating and strengthens our ability to support them.”

Clark Kassian, National Leader, Real Estate Group, Dentons Canada

“Norton Rose Fulbright boasts an enviable global energy, infrastructure and corporate capability that I am excited to be joining. The firm’s full-service global offering across all energy and infrastructure matters was a major drawcard and I look forward to collaborating with the firm’s partners across borders for the benefit of our clients.”
