Dentons announced that Mark Wetjen has joined the firm’s Federal Regulatory and Compliance practice as a partner, resident in its Washington, DC, office. Wetjen’s career spans across government, regulatory, in-house legal and private practice, with experience in financial markets, asset management, digital assets, derivatives, commodities and financial technology matters.
As A former Commission of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Wetjen played a pivotal role in implementing generational reforms, facilitating international cooperation and negotiating crucial agreements with European regulatory bodies. And Wetjen chaired the CFTC’s Global Markets Advisory Committee, leading discussions on regulatory frameworks for digital assets. His time at the CFTC was four years, including a tenure as Acting Chairman.
Wetjen held leadership positions at prominent financial institutions, most recently serving as a senior advisor with Patomak Global Partners (a financial services consultancy). Previously, he worked as CEO of MIAX Futures and Head of Global Policy at the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation.
