Dentons Hamilton Harrison & Mathews has appointed Dr. Daniel Wanjau Muriu as the new Head of its Corporate, Commercial & Real Estate Department, succeeding Richard Omwela.
Omwela, who previously served as a Partner at the firm, has transitioned to the role of Consultant. In this position, he will continue to provide strategic guidance and share his experience with the firm’s teams and clients.
Dr. Wanjau is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with more than three decades of experience in legal practice. He began his career in commercial litigation, developing advocacy expertise in the courts before moving into corporate and commercial law, where he has built a reputation as a trusted advisor to clients across multiple industries.
His practice focuses on legal and regulatory compliance, with particular emphasis on sectors such as technology, banking, insurance, telecommunications, competition law, and intellectual property. He is widely recognized for providing strategic counsel on complex regulatory and transactional matters with a commercially focused approach.
Dr. Wanjau’s work has earned recognition from several leading international legal directories, including Chambers Global, The Legal 500, World Trademark Review, IFLR1000, and IP Stars. In recent rankings, Chambers Global awarded him a Band 1 ranking in Telecommunications, Media & Technology and recognized him in the Spotlight category for Competition/Antitrust. In 2026 rankings, World Trademark Review gave him a Gold ranking, following his recognition by IP Stars/Managing IP in 2024 as Kenya’s IP Practitioner of the Year.
