Dentons: Hong Kong Intellectual Property And Technology Practice Expanded With Key Partner Additions

Dentons announced the expansion of its Intellectual Property and Technology practice in Hong Kong with the addition of Loke-Khoon Tan, Dominic Edmondson, and Maria Joannides Smith to its partnership and leadership team. The trio joins from Baker McKenzie and is expected to strengthen the Firm’s capabilities across the Asia-Pacific region and globally.

Dentons said the appointments reinforce its position in Intellectual Property and Technology matters, with the new partners bringing extensive experience across IP protection, artificial intelligence, data privacy, cybersecurity, telecommunications, brand enforcement, and technology transactions.

Loke-Khoon Tan is recognized for his experience in intellectual property law in Hong Kong and Mainland China. His practice focuses on the structuring and protection of IP rights, including trademarks, design patents, copyright, trade names, software, and anti-counterfeiting strategies. His work also spans emerging areas including internet and social media, media and entertainment, artificial intelligence, and technology law. Tan previously led the regional IP & Technology practice and Consumer Goods & Retail Industry practice at his prior firm for two decades.

Dominic Edmondson advises clients on global data privacy and data protection, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, information technology transactions, e-commerce, and telecommunications matters. He also has experience in contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters across Greater China and Asia, serving sectors including technology, media and telecommunications, automotive, financial services, and healthcare. Edmondson is admitted to practice in both Hong Kong and England & Wales.

Maria Joannides Smith focuses on contentious, non-contentious, and commercial intellectual property matters, particularly trademarks and copyright. Her work includes regional and global IP portfolio management, brand protection and enforcement, IP rights structuring, and advising clients on regional brand selection and clearance processes before market entry and product launches.
