Dentons announced it has opened a new office in Kolwezi, Democratic Republic of Congo, further expanding its presence in one of Africa’s most strategically important markets.

The new office strengthens Dentons’ ability to support clients operating in the heart of Africa’s mining sector and across industries tied to the global energy transition. The expansion follows Dentons’ 2025 launch in the Democratic Republic of Congo and reinforces the firm’s focus on providing on-the-ground legal support in markets where clients operate.

Kolwezi is located in Lualaba province, at the center of the Congolese Copperbelt. The city has grown from a small mining town into one of the world’s most significant mineral centers. It is home to major copper and cobalt projects and plays an important role in global supply chains supporting the energy transition.

Beyond mining, Kolwezi also serves as a logistics gateway connecting the Democratic Republic of Congo to regional and international markets. Strategic transport corridors link the city to Angola’s Lobito Port, Tanzania’s Port of Dar es Salaam, Zambia, and ports in South Africa and Mozambique, making Kolwezi an important hub for trade, investment, and cross-border commerce.

Dentons said the Kolwezi office will help the firm work more closely with clients involved in mining, infrastructure, energy transition, logistics, investment, and industrial activity across the region.

Dentons in the Democratic Republic of Congo combines local market knowledge with the resources of the firm’s global platform. The firm advises clients across practice areas including mining, project development, energy, banking and finance, corporate and M&A, infrastructure, employment, tax, and dispute resolution.

With the addition of the Kolwezi office, Dentons continues to expand its pan-African platform and connect clients to legal talent and opportunities across Africa and globally.
