Dentons announced that it has added partners Sunil Joneja, Alexandra Fox, and Scott McLeman to its Banking and Finance group in Calgary, strengthening the firm’s capabilities in corporate lending, real estate finance, specialty finance, and cross-border transactions.
The additions further expand Dentons’ banking and financial services practice in Canada and internationally, reinforcing the firm’s position in areas including syndicated and bilateral debt financing, structured finance, derivatives, secured and unsecured lending, and multi-jurisdictional financing transactions.
Sunil Joneja brings nearly three decades of experience advising banks, borrowers, and financial institutions on a broad range of banking and finance matters. His background includes complex cross-border syndicated and bilateral debt financings, derivatives transactions, and structured finance matters involving commodity, cross-currency, and interest rate hedging arrangements.
Alexandra Fox advises on domestic and multi-jurisdictional lending transactions, including bilateral and syndicated facilities. She works with financial institutions, private lenders, and borrowers across multiple industries, combining technical lending expertise with sector-specific knowledge.
Scott McLeman joins the firm with experience representing lenders and borrowers on secured and unsecured financing transactions, including asset-based lending and cross-border financings. His practice also includes private mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance matters, enabling him to support clients across financing and broader business transactions.
The expansion comes as Calgary continues to remain one of Canada’s most active legal and financial markets, particularly for energy, infrastructure, real estate, and corporate finance activity. Dentons said the additions align with its broader strategy of strengthening integrated client services across lending, capital deployment, and transactional advisory work.
The announcement also follows the recent additions of Michael Kershaw and Kamil Umar to the firm’s Real Estate group. Dentons noted that those hires expanded the firm’s experience in financing structures, development lending, and capital deployment, helping the firm support clients through all stages of transactions from financing through project completion.
Dentons’ Banking and Finance group advises clients on lending transactions, debt capital markets activity, and financial services regulation, leveraging the firm’s international network and local market experience across Canada and globally.
