DermaSensor has raised more than $5 million in new financing, including a $4 million Series B extension from institutional and strategic investors and more than $1 million raised through a community investment round on Wefunder.
The financing follows DermaSensor’s $16 million Series B completed in 2025 and brings total investment in the company to $48 million. The Wefunder round is being offered on the same terms as the $4 million Series B extension.
The financing comes as DermaSensor expands commercialization of its AI-powered handheld skin cancer detection device through four new U.S. partnerships spanning primary care, enterprise healthcare and federal health systems.
The company has established an approved supplier relationship with Henry Schein, a new customer relationship with a major U.S. healthcare institution employing tens of thousands of providers, a commercial partnership with MedTech MedCare, and an agreement naming Medical Place as DermaSensor’s exclusive reseller to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
DermaSensor’s technology was originally developed at Boston University and combines Elastic Scattering Spectroscopy with artificial intelligence to provide an immediate, objective risk assessment for suspicious skin lesions.
In published studies cited by the company, the device demonstrated 96% sensitivity across melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, the three most common skin cancers, while reducing missed skin cancer referrals by more than 50%.
The device has been commercially available for approximately two years and is now used by hundreds of healthcare provider organizations. More than 45,000 suspicious lesions have been scanned with the technology.
DermaSensor’s non-invasive handheld system has received FDA Class II De Novo clearance and a Class IIb CE Mark and is currently commercially available in the U.S.
KEY QUOTE:
“Our professional investor partners have supported us through every phase of building this new medical device category. Opening the financing on Wefunder is about extending that ownership to the physicians and patients who are living the problem we’re solving, given that 1 in 5 Americans are affected by skin cancer. We want the people closest to it to have a seat at the table.”
Cody Simmons, Co-Founder and CEO of DermaSensor
