The Walt Disney Company has officially named Josh D’Amaro as its new chief executive officer, marking a major leadership transition as longtime CEO Bob Iger steps aside and moves into an advisory role.

D’Amaro, who most recently served as chairman of Disney Experiences, takes over leadership of the company at a pivotal moment, with Disney continuing to prioritize growth across its theme parks and streaming businesses. His appointment becomes effective at the company’s annual shareholder meeting.

The leadership change comes after a period of uncertainty surrounding succession planning and corporate restructuring at The Walt Disney Company. Iger, who led Disney for roughly two decades across two stints, will remain with the company as a senior advisor and board member through the end of the year.

During his tenure, Iger oversaw some of Disney’s most transformative moves, including major acquisitions and the launch of its streaming platform. He initially stepped down in 2020, but returned two years later following a turbulent leadership period under his successor.

D’Amaro has been with Disney since 1998 and has held a variety of leadership roles across the organization. In his most recent position, he oversaw Disney’s parks, cruise line, resorts, and consumer products division, which has become a key earnings driver for the company.

As CEO, D’Amaro is expected to focus on sustaining momentum in Disney’s core growth areas. The company’s recent financial performance has been supported by strong results from its theme parks and improved profitability in its streaming business. Disney has also been investing heavily in expanding its global parks footprint, including new developments and international projects.

The transition signals the beginning of a new era for Disney as it looks to balance its legacy media business with evolving consumer trends and continued investment in experiential entertainment.
