- Disney’s video streaming subscription service Disney+ now has 28.6 million subscribers
Disney’s video streaming subscription service Disney+ now has 28.6 million subscribers. This is impressive considering that the service just launched in November. This figure was revealed by Disney CEO Bob Iger in an earnings call.
Disney+ is priced at $6.99 per month. And Disney is projecting that the streaming service will hit 60 million to 90 million subscribers by 2025.
“We had a strong first quarter, highlighted by the launch of Disney+, which has exceeded even our greatest expectations,” said Iger. “Thanks to our incredible collection of brands, outstanding content from our creative engines and state-of-the-art technology, we believe our direct-to-consumer services, including Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu, position us well for continued growth in today’s dynamic media environment.”
The company also reported revenue hit $20.8 billion, which is a 36% jump from a year earlier. Disney’s movie studio hit $3.7 billion in revenue for the quarter, up over 100% over the prior year. And Disney’s streaming operations also increased by more than 100% compared to last year at $3.9 billion.
Disney’s ESPN+ streaming service now has 7.6 million subscribers and Hulu has 30.7 million subscribers. One of the reasons why the subscriber base increased for ESPN+ and Hulu is due to bundles being offered along with Disney+ for $12.99 per month.
