DLA Piper has announced that Macarena Gatica has joined the firm as a partner in its Data, Privacy, and Cybersecurity practice. Her appointment underscores the firm’s continued investment in expanding its Chile office and enhancing its leadership in data protection and technology law across Latin America.
Gatica brings more than two decades of experience advising clients on data privacy, cybersecurity, and emerging technology regulation. She is widely recognized for her work helping companies adapt to evolving data protection frameworks and for her leadership in implementing Chile’s data privacy reforms. Her expertise spans a variety of sectors, including technology, telecommunications, finance, and healthcare, where she has helped organizations build robust compliance and governance programs.
Beyond her legal practice, Gatica serves as a lecturer on data protection at both Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad del Desarrollo. She has played a pivotal role in shaping Chile’s Data Protection Law. The Chilean Congress frequently invites her to offer expert testimony on legislative initiatives related to technology and digital governance.
Her addition bolsters DLA Piper’s already strong regional capabilities. The firm’s Latin America practice provides full-service business counsel to domestic and multinational companies with operations across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, and Puerto Rico, as well as cross-border services from the United States. With over 400 lawyers across the region and more than 90 offices in 40 countries, DLA Piper continues to integrate local insight with global legal expertise to serve its clients’ complex business and regulatory needs.
The firm highlighted Gatica’s arrival as part of its strategic vision to strengthen its global technology and privacy practice, particularly at a time when regulatory frameworks for data governance are becoming more sophisticated and enforcement more stringent throughout Latin America.
