DLA Piper has named Russel (Russ) Drew as its managing partner in Canada, expanding his leadership responsibilities as the firm looks to deepen its presence in the country and strengthen cross-border client support.
In the role, Drew will also join DLA Piper’s US Executive Committee, where the firm said he will help advance strategic priorities tied to its global client base. DLA Piper operates in more than 40 countries and has Canadian offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, and Edmonton.
Frank Ryan, the firm’s global co-chair, said the appointment reflects the firm’s focus on leveraging its international platform to serve clients wherever they operate, adding that Drew’s client experience and understanding of the Canadian market will support the firm’s continued growth.
Drew has been with DLA Piper for about a decade and advises on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and venture capital matters, representing both private and public companies. The firm said he has worked on some of Canada’s largest and most complex transactions.
He succeeds Robert (Rob) Seidel, K.C., who has led the firm’s Canada business since 2015. Seidel will continue advising clients in a new role as chairman emeritus. DLA Piper also said it plans to name two additional Canadian partners to its US Executive Committee in 2026, underscoring its commitment to the market.
