DLA Piper has appointed Edward (Ed) Eisdell-Moore as a partner in its technology and data practice in New Zealand. The firm said Eisdell-Moore is an experienced technology and data lawyer who advises on complex matters spanning artificial intelligence, major technology and sourcing projects, data protection, and cybersecurity, with a client base that ranges from start-ups and high-growth technology companies to large corporates and publicly listed multinationals, particularly in data-intensive and infrastructure-driven sectors.
The appointment is part of DLA Piper’s continued investment in technology, data governance, and digital infrastructure capabilities in New Zealand, as organizations face increasing regulatory and operational complexity in adopting AI and data-driven systems. The firm emphasized that legal considerations are increasingly embedded across procurement, implementation, and day-to-day operations, heightening demand for advisers who combine regulatory insight with practical delivery experience.
DLA Piper noted that Eisdell-Moore operates within its global Intellectual Property and Technology practice, which the firm said includes more than 800 lawyers and supports cross-jurisdictional work for technology-enabled businesses. The firm also highlighted his prior in-house experience at a multinational energy gentailer, framing it as relevant to advising clients in the energy sector, including data center-related matters.
Eisdell-Moore is also described as active in publishing and commentary on emerging regulatory issues, including New Zealand’s AI strategy and regulation, and in advising on governance and compliance structures aligned with a light-touch regulatory framework.
In New Zealand, Eisdell-Moore will work closely with Nick Valentine, Head of Technology and Data, and collaborate across corporate, finance, litigation, and regulatory teams on transactions, infrastructure projects, and regulatory change programs with significant digital and data components. DLA Piper added that he is also involved in the firm’s pro bono and community programs.
