DLA Piper announced it has welcomed Mike Walsh as a partner in the National Security and Global Trade Practice. In this role, Walsh will advise clients on navigating the dynamic international trade and tariff environment. He will be based in the firm’s Washington, DC, office and will support the Regulatory and Government Affairs Practice.
Walsh advises clients on inbound US investment strategy, US export controls, and US trade policy. And he previously served concurrently as Chief of Staff and Acting General Counsel at the US Department of Commerce during the first Trump administration where he worked to attract foreign direct investment to the US and develop US trade and export control policy.
Plus, his Commerce experience and knowledge of the Trump administration’s priorities will enable him to advise clients on investments in US manufacturing, advanced technology, energy, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and life sciences sectors, as well as new US government initiatives in defense technology, semiconductor manufacturing, commercial space exploration, and shipbuilding.
Walsh represents US and multinational companies, sovereign wealth funds, private equity firms, and VC funds on Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) matters, export controls, interactions with the US Department of Commerce, other Cabinet agencies, and Congress. And Walsh also represents clients in the US looking to export advanced technology related to artificial intelligence and clients outside of the US looking to acquire advanced US AI technology to support their own domestic growth.
