Global law firm DLA Piper has strengthened its corporate, finance and tax capabilities with the appointment of four new partners across its London and Luxembourg offices.
The firm announced that Markjan van Schaardenburgh, Cathrine Foldberg Møller, Mark Brown and Gareth Amdor have joined the partnership, reinforcing key practice areas including private equity, mergers and acquisitions, financial services regulation and tax.
Markjan van Schaardenburgh joins the London office to bolster the firm’s global private equity and M&A practice. Previously at Ashurst, he is dual-qualified in England and Wales and South Africa and brings more than two decades of experience advising companies and investment firms across Europe and Africa. His work spans complex M&A transactions, downstream private equity deals, private capital investments, corporate restructurings and governance mandates.
Cathrine Foldberg Møller joins the firm’s finance practice in Luxembourg with a pan-European financial services regulatory focus. She previously worked at Simmons & Simmons and advises financial institutions, insurers and FinTech companies — including crypto-asset service providers — on banking and payments regulation, investment activities, product regulation and financial promotion. Her experience covers major regulatory frameworks such as MiFID, CRD6, PSD3, DORA, MiCA, crowdfunding rules and tokenisation, along with licensing and regulatory perimeter matters.
In London, Mark Brown joins the finance practice bringing more than 20 years of experience advising on structured products, derivatives, securities lending and regulatory matters, as well as bank reorganization projects. Brown is a former Linklaters partner and most recently served at the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority as a policy technical specialist in the Infrastructure and Exchanges Directorate’s Capital Markets Sustainable Finance division. During his career he has worked across multiple jurisdictions including Tokyo and Hong Kong.
Gareth Amdor also joins the London office as a partner in the tax practice. Amdor previously led the restructuring and expansion of Reed Smith’s UK tax practice and has more than 28 years of experience in UK taxation. He is recognized for his work advising private equity funds, real estate investors and companies on cross-border M&A, corporate finance, restructuring, venture capital and hedge fund structuring. At DLA Piper, he will lead the firm’s UK transaction tax practice.
The appointments form part of the firm’s broader strategy to strengthen its corporate, finance and tax capabilities across major financial centers and support increasing demand from clients navigating complex international transactions and regulatory frameworks.
