Doctolib Acquires Medicus To Expand AI-Powered GP Platform In The UK

By Amit Chowdhry ● May 6, 2026

Doctolib announced the acquisition of Medicus as part of a broader strategy to accelerate the transformation of general practice technology across the United Kingdom. As part of the expansion, Doctolib plans to invest more than £100 million in the UK over the coming years, hire 150 employees, and establish a dedicated research and development center in London focused on primary care innovation.

The acquisition combines Medicus’ NHS-native GP platform and expertise in UK primary care with Doctolib’s AI capabilities, healthcare software infrastructure, and experience supporting more than 40,000 general practitioners across Europe.

Medicus will continue operating with its existing leadership team and UK-based staff while jointly developing expanded technology offerings for GP practices, primary care networks, and integrated care boards across the country.

The companies said the combined platform will streamline workflows for clinical and administrative teams through AI-powered scheduling, documentation, workflow automation, care coordination, patient follow-up, and clinical support tools.

Doctolib was founded in 2013 by Stanislas Niox-Chateau and has grown into one of Europe’s leading healthcare technology companies, supporting more than 500,000 healthcare professionals and 90 million patients through scheduling, electronic health records, secure messaging, financial tools, and AI assistants.

Medicus was founded by Emile Axelrad and developed one of the first new GP clinical software systems introduced into the NHS in 25 years through NHS England’s Tech Innovation Framework. The platform integrates with healthcare systems including the NHS App.

The companies said the investment supports the NHS 10-Year Plan priorities of shifting healthcare from hospitals to community care, modernizing digital infrastructure, and improving preventive healthcare services.

According to the companies, patient data will continue to be processed and hosted securely in the UK in compliance with UK GDPR and NHS requirements.
