DTE Energy announced a $1.6 billion investment in Michigan’s clean energy future through a partnership with LG Energy Solution Vertech to deploy Michigan-made battery energy storage systems across the state. The procurement agreement will support eight battery storage projects over a two-year period and is expected to generate approximately $2.3 billion in economic impact while creating jobs, strengthening grid reliability, and helping meet Michigan’s clean energy targets.
The eight projects will collectively provide 1.5 gigawatts, or 6 gigawatt hours, of battery storage capacity. The systems will store electricity during periods of excess generation and release power during times of peak demand, reducing strain on the grid and minimizing the need to frequently ramp generation resources up and down.
DTE said the investment aligns with its broader strategy to support responsible data center growth while maintaining reliability for existing customers and complying with Michigan’s Renewable Portfolio Standard and Clean Energy Standard requirements. The company noted that battery storage systems funded through its approved contract for the Oracle data center in Saline Township are sufficient on their own to meet DTE’s share of the state’s 2030 battery storage clean energy standard requirements.
The partnership will utilize batteries manufactured at LG Energy Solution Vertech’s facility in Holland, Michigan. According to the companies, the projects will directly support approximately 1,800 hourly and salaried jobs at the manufacturing plant, along with more than 350 additional construction and operations positions.
DTE also highlighted its broader commitment to Michigan suppliers, noting that it spent approximately $2.9 billion with Michigan-based businesses in 2025. The company said these expenditures help reinforce local supply chains, support job creation, and strengthen the state’s energy infrastructure.
The announcement builds on DTE’s ongoing infrastructure and clean energy investments. The utility reported investing nearly $4 billion in 2025 to improve electric reliability and expand cleaner energy resources, contributing to what it described as its strongest reliability performance in nearly two decades.
