DTS is a professional services firm providing cybersecurity, management, and consulting services. Based in Arlington, Virginia, DTS employs talented individuals with a passion for excellence and surrounds them with the resources they need to excel. For over a decade, the company helped public sector and commercial clients respond to changing environments and daunting challenges by applying expertise and managing implementation. Pulse 2.0 interviewed DTS founder and managing principal Edward Tuorinsky.
Edward Tuorinsky’s Background
Before founding the company, Tuorinsky was a Captain and logistics officer in the U. S. Army. He then led the professional services divisions of two federal government consulting firms, managing multi-million-dollar project portfolios.
Formation of DTS
How did the idea for DTS come together? Tuorinsky said:
“I founded DTS in 2011 with a vision to create a consulting firm with a culture that facilitates the advancement of its employees, customers, and the industry. I wanted to stay on the pulse of new market trends and evolving customer needs and be able to work alongside my team to deliver client results.”
Core Products/Services
What are the company’s core products/services? Tuorinsky explained:
“DTS is a professional services firm providing cybersecurity, management, and consulting services. Our approach is strategic, education-oriented, and focused on delivering impactful results.”
“We hold several government contracts and provide comprehensive cybersecurity services to commercial businesses, offering remediation and compliance, Managed Security Services, licensing, training, security operations support, IT forensics, data backups and continuity of operations, secure cloud architecture, and fractional CIO support.”
Challenges Faced
Have you faced any specific bottlenecks in your sector of work recently? Tuorinsky acknowledged:
“Cybersecurity continues to be a part of operations that many small and mid-sized businesses feel they can ignore. The risks are massive, with infrastructure attacks, ransomware, and business-disrupting data breaches, yet many business owners won’t carve out the budget to establish the security posture they need. My concern is that the cost of recovering from an attack far exceeds the costs of establishing basic system security and cyber hygiene practices so these businesses are taking a huge gamble.”
Evolution Of DTS’ Technology Services
How has the company’s technology or services evolved since launching? Tuorinsky noted:
“Technology has been a game changer for our business. Can you imagine the pandemic’s impact if we didn’t have video conferencing, smartphones, and secure, remote access to files? Instead, we continued to operate effectively, serving our clients with the same level of attention and engagement—and helping other organizations use technology solutions to operate more efficiently and transform their processes.”
“We launched our cybersecurity division in 2021 to meet the demands of an evolving market. We’ve seen exponential growth in our cybersecurity services year over year, allowing us to increase our staff, continue investing in staff certifications and our own compliance, and launch new services, like our white-glove remediation program for CMMC and CyberSchool, an offering with online courses and tutorials that allow small businesses to make better decisions about their own security posture.”
Significant Milestones
What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Tuorinsky cited:
“DTS was included in the Top 100 Best Places to Work in Virginia and a finalist in the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce 2022 Distinguished Service Awards as a Veteran-Owned Business of the Year.”
“In the past year, DTS renewed several key government contracts and established a joint venture called SMCV to support the mission work of Federal agencies.”
“The company achieved ISO 27001 certification and scored a perfect 110/110 in the Joint Surveillance Voluntary Assessment (JSVA), meeting all the requirements of CMMC Level 2 and NIST SP 800-171 for our own cybersecurity program.”
“Our staff includes recognized SMEs who regularly author thought-leadership articles on cybersecurity for national and regional publications and are invited to speak at industry conferences.”
Customer Success Stories
After asking about customer success stories, Tuorinsky highlighted:
“Recently, one of our SMB contractor clients went through the Joint Surveillance Voluntary Assessment Program (JSVAP), earning a perfect score. The program is based on the same 110 controls required for CMMC Level 2. The client understood that having an early assessment would be a competitive advantage—allowing contracting officers and partners to trust their cybersecurity compliance. Their score is a significant milestone for all SMB contractors. It demonstrates that small businesses can, in fact, meet the standards and rigor needed for CMMC with the right remediation support. The client credits DTS’s tailored approach for their success.”
Differentiation From The Competition
What differentiates the company from its competition? Tuorinsky affirmed:
“DTS provides tailored, scalable cybersecurity solutions with consultative and education-oriented delivery. We believe cybersecurity is not a one-solution-fits-all situation solved with a package.”
“Our plans meet clients wherever they are in terms of cybersecurity and provide customized services based on their business structure and systems, including comprehensive cybersecurity services for commercial businesses, remediation and compliance, Managed Security Services, licensing, training, security operations support, IT forensics, data backups and continuity of operations, secure cloud architecture, documentation and ongoing maintenance. We can even act as a fractional CIO, handling the internal oversight and details.”
“Our track record of helping clients is distinguished by several significant compliance milestones, which we don’t share publicly for security reasons.”
Future Company Goals
What are some of the company’s future company goals? Tuorinsky concluded:
“DTS will continue to build its core competencies to meet the need for experienced guidance from a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP). We anticipate helping numerous businesses in the Defense Industrial Base prepare for CMMC certification. Long-term, we are ready to help clients merge physical security and cybersecurity as the U.S. government responds to Executive Orders and mandates.”
“We also plan to expand our footprint through additional partnerships with large, global technology providers to offer superior support and innovative technology to small and mid-sized businesses.”
“Our five-year vision is to continue its evolution by focusing on growth within the commercial market, supporting the cybersecurity needs of larger regional and global commercial technology and healthcare firms, and branching further into supporting critical infrastructure needs.”
