Echodyne has been awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a ceiling of $250 million supporting Joint Interagency Task Force 401’s Domestic Shield counter-UAS program.
The agreement has an ordering period of up to 36 months and provides a contracting pathway for Echodyne radar systems supporting force protection, base defense and counter-drone missions in the U.S. and internationally.
Under the agreement, Echodyne’s MESA radar products will be available for procurement through JIATF-401’s C-UAS Marketplace for the U.S. and allied nations.
MESA is Echodyne’s software-defined metamaterials electronically scanned array radar architecture.
The technology combines electronic beam steering with a compact solid-state design and can be updated through software as drone threats and operational requirements change.
Echodyne’s EchoShield medium-range radar is designed for counter-UAS missions and provides persistent tracks at a 10 Hz update rate.
The system provides angular accuracy of less than 0.5 degrees in both azimuth and elevation, according to Echodyne.
AI and machine-learning models are used to classify objects including fixed-wing and multirotor drones.
The radar’s size, weight and power characteristics allow it to be deployed at fixed sites, in rapidly deployable configurations and for on-the-move missions.
Echodyne said its radar systems have been integrated into hundreds of counter-UAS systems globally.
The company recently opened an 86,350-square-foot manufacturing facility in Washington state with capacity to manufacture more than 30,000 radars annually.
KEY QUOTES:
“JIATF-401 is continuously working with industry partners to provide the counter-UAS capabilities needed to protect warfighters and installations. Our approach allows us to identify the right capabilities for specific operational requirements and rapidly deliver those capabilities to the warfighter.”
Brig. Gen. Matt Ross, Director of JIATF-401
“Counter-drone defense depends on knowing precisely where a threat is, maintaining that track and rapidly getting useful data to the systems that can respond. MESA gives operators that precision in a radar they can deploy across missions and platforms. This contract creates a practical path to bring those capabilities to more of the forces and facilities that JIATF-401 supports.”
Eben Frankenberg, CEO of Echodyne
