ECIJA has appointed María Cortizas as a partner in its Tax practice in Spain, strengthening the law firm’s capabilities across M&A, corporate restructuring, capital markets, structured finance and complex tax matters.
Cortizas brings more than two decades of experience advising large companies, financial institutions, private equity firms, property funds and international investors.
Her transactional experience includes acquisitions and divestments, reorganizations, cross-border investments and deals involving infrastructure, investment and real estate funds.
She also handles tax proceedings, audits and litigation, giving her a practice spanning both transaction structuring and subsequent disputes with tax authorities.
Before joining ECIJA, Cortizas spent seven years leading Dentons’ tax practice in Spain. She previously spent 12 years at Linklaters and 11 years in the Transactions department at KPMG Abogados.
Her work has been recognized by Chambers Europe, The Legal 500 and International Tax Review. The Legal 500 has named her a Leading Partner for Tax in Spain, while International Tax Review has recognized her as a Highly Regarded Practitioner in Transactional Tax and a Woman in Tax Leader.
ECIJA said the addition will strengthen its ability to advise strategic clients on transactions requiring close coordination between tax, corporate, finance and other legal disciplines.
