  • Electronic Arts announced it will be cutting about 800 jobs.

This week, Electronic Arts announced it is laying off about 6% of its workforce (or about 800 jobs). The company is also reducing office space as part of a goal to cut substantial costs.

“As we drive greater focus across our portfolio, we are moving away from projects that do not contribute to our strategy, reviewing our real estate footprint, and restructuring some of our teams,” CEO Andrew Wilson wrote in a note to employees. Layoffs are “the most difficult part, and we are working through the process with the utmost care and respect,” said Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson in a memo.

Electronics Arts is expecting to see impairment charges ranging between $170 million and $200 million. And the actions associated with the restructuring are expected to be complete by the end of September.
