Ellis Raises More Than $10 Million In Seed Funding Led By First Round Capital

Ellis has emerged from stealth with more than $10 million in seed funding to build an AI-native operations platform for private credit firms. First Round Capital led the financing, with participation from 645 Ventures, Harlem Capital, Khosla Ventures, Slow Ventures, Wilshire Lane, Westbound, Collide Capital and Gallery Ventures. Individual investors included Ariel Alternatives CEO Mellody Hobson, Thrive Capital founder Josh Kushner and Mercury founder and CEO Immad Akhund.

Ellis was founded by Ryan Williams, who previously founded Cadre, a technology-enabled alternative investment platform that facilitated approximately $6 billion in transaction value.

The company is developing a unified data infrastructure that connects fund administrators, general ledgers, loan-servicing platforms, bank accounts, regulatory filings, legal documents and spreadsheet models.

Ellis then deploys specialized AI agents to complete the initial stages of recurring operational tasks, including reconciling cash flows and investment positions, identifying anomalies, tracking exceptions and supporting fund-closing, limited-partner reporting, compliance and portfolio monitoring.

Human employees remain responsible for material decisions and approvals. The platform’s outputs are designed to be reviewable, explainable and traceable to their original sources.

Ellis is developing its technology with multiple private credit design partners, including Treville Capital Group. Its broader partner network represents more than $50 billion in cumulative assets under management.

The company plans to use the funding to expand its team and deepen its technology across reconciliation, document intelligence, investor reporting, Small Business Investment Company compliance and other private credit workflows.

Ellis ultimately intends to expand its operating platform beyond private credit and into additional areas of the alternative investment market.

KEY QUOTES:

“Ellis is the company I wished existed every day I was building Cadre. We were creating new ways to invest in private markets, but behind every innovation sat the same operating problem: critical data lived across systems that did not speak to one another, and teams spent too much time proving which numbers were right.”

“The largest firms could build custom systems and large operating teams. Everyone else was expected to deliver the same rigor with fewer resources. We believe ‘institutional’ should describe how well a firm operates, not how much it can afford to spend on infrastructure. Ellis is building the trusted foundation that allows more managers to compete, scale and win.”

Ryan Williams, Founder and CEO of Ellis

“Closing our books has always meant an analyst cross-checking fund administrator numbers against our own spreadsheet by hand every month, hoping they’d match. With reconciliation happening continuously and automatically, I can always know where the portfolio stands, not rely on a snapshot that’s already three weeks old. That’s the kind of insight into our fund we’ve never had before.”

Ali Hamed, Founder and Partner at Treville Capital Group

“Nearly every fintech cycle for the last decade has gone after the front office. Almost nobody has touched what happens behind it, and that’s exactly why it’s still broken. Ryan lived this problem for years at Cadre, and his team has the product and technical instincts to build a long-needed fix. That combination has the potential to create a category-defining company that we’re proud to back.”
