Elsevier announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Mytonomy, a provider of video-based patient engagement solutions, in a move aimed at expanding its portfolio of healthcare technology and clinical decision-support tools.
The acquisition, which remains subject to customary regulatory closing conditions, will bring Mytonomy’s enterprise cloud platform into Elsevier’s Clinical Solutions portfolio. The platform integrates patient education videos, enterprise content management, surveys, and direct patient communication tools directly within electronic health record systems, helping healthcare providers automate patient journeys and deliver personalized engagement throughout the care process.
Mytonomy Cloud for Healthcare is a configurable software-as-a-service platform designed to deliver clinically validated education and communication across multiple channels, including patient portals. The system allows health systems to embed educational content and automated communications within existing clinical workflows while generating real-time analytics on patient engagement and outcomes.
According to the company, the platform has demonstrated strong engagement metrics. In one example cited by the company, surgery patients within CMS pathways are viewing more than 20 minutes of content per session. Additionally, 73 percent of surveyed patients reported that Mytonomy’s video content across pre- and post-procedure stages helped them adhere to their care plans.
Elsevier said integrating Mytonomy’s capabilities with its existing content and analytics platforms will strengthen its patient engagement offerings. The company already provides evidence-based solutions such as PatientPass, ClinicalKey AI, and ClinicalSkills, which support physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals with clinical insights and decision support at the point of care.
The acquisition also comes amid growing concern among clinicians about patients increasingly turning to online sources and AI tools for medical information. Elsevier said combining trusted clinical content with advanced engagement technologies can help health systems improve patient understanding, strengthen care adherence, and enhance clinical efficiency.
Founded in Bethesda, Maryland, Mytonomy provides video-based patient education and engagement tools used by more than 70 hospitals and over 200 clinics. Its platform integrates with major EHR and CRM systems and supports patient engagement across multiple stages of care, including pre- and post-procedure education, ambulatory visits, inpatient care, and at-home recovery.
Elsevier, part of RELX, delivers scientific and medical information, analytics, and decision-support tools to researchers and healthcare professionals across more than 170 countries.
