EMARKETER Buys RetailX’s Research Business

EMARKETER has acquired the research business of RetailX, expanding its retail and brand intelligence platform with established industry rankings, research tools and additional research personnel. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition adds RetailX’s research team and proprietary research capabilities to EMARKETER.

EMARKETER will take over publication of The UK500, RetailX’s annual ranking of the UK’s top 500 ecommerce retailers.

It will also publish The CustomerX Index, a pan-European cross-sector ranking report scheduled to launch in late September 2026, and plans to introduce additional editions covering the U.S. market.

EMARKETER plans to combine the rankings with its own proprietary research products.

Those products include its recently launched AI Visibility Index, which is designed to help brands and retailers track their visibility within searches conducted through large language models.

RetailX’s events business is not part of the acquisition and will continue operating independently.

EMARKETER and RetailX will instead establish an ongoing media partnership involving the events business.

The transaction expands EMARKETER’s investment in proprietary research covering digital commerce, retail and consumer brands.
