Emergent BioSolutions announced that it has been awarded a contract modification valued at approximately $52.7 million from the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The contract modification covers the supply of ACAM2000, ancillaries, and diluent replacement lots for smallpox preparedness and response needs.
Deliveries are expected to begin this month.
ACAM2000 is a smallpox and mpox vaccine indicated for active immunization for the prevention of smallpox and mpox disease in individuals determined to be at high risk for smallpox or mpox infection.
The contract modification falls under Emergent’s existing 10-year contract with ASPR.
Emergent said the award reflects the U.S. government’s continued focus on biodefense preparedness and the company’s role in supporting protection against potential smallpox and mpox threats.
The award follows recent international regulatory milestones for ACAM2000. Emergent recently announced that the Saudi Food and Drug Authority approved ACAM2000 for immunization against smallpox and mpox in high-risk individuals.
The company also announced that Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority approved an expanded indication for ACAM2000 to include prevention of mpox disease in adults determined to be at high risk for mpox infection.
Emergent specializes in developing, manufacturing, and delivering medical countermeasures to the U.S. government and allied nations.
The company’s preparedness portfolio focuses on health threats including smallpox, mpox, Ebola, anthrax, botulism, and opioid overdose emergencies.
Emergent BioSolutions has been operating for more than 25 years and focuses on protective and life-saving solutions for public health preparedness.
