Endra Launches AI-Powered Electrical Engineering Platform And Acquires Planlabs Following $50 Million Series A

Endra, a Stockholm-based artificial intelligence company developing software for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering, has launched Endra Power Studio, an AI-powered platform designed to automate electrical engineering workflows. The company also announced the acquisition of Planlabs, a Swiss AI company specializing in mechanical engineering, expanding its capabilities as it develops an integrated platform for building design.

The announcements follow Endra’s $50 million Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with earlier backing from Notion Capital and Norrsken VC. Financial terms of the Planlabs acquisition were not disclosed.

Founded in 2024, Endra is developing AI technology to address engineering capacity constraints affecting commercial construction, data center development, infrastructure electrification, and other major building projects.

The company is targeting the global MEP engineering services market, which it estimates exceeds $150 billion. Its technology is designed to reduce the repetitive design and documentation work involved in complex construction projects while allowing engineers to retain responsibility for technical decisions and final approvals.

Traditional MEP engineering frequently requires professionals to work across multiple software applications, including Autodesk Revit for building modeling, Microsoft Excel for calculations, and Navisworks for project coordination.

Endra aims to consolidate these activities into a unified platform that uses AI agents to perform defined engineering tasks under human supervision.

The company’s newly introduced Power Studio focuses initially on electrical engineering, incorporating automated design, engineering calculations, code verification, and document generation.

Engineers begin by importing a building model, establishing project requirements, and instructing AI agents to perform specific design tasks. They can review and approve the results at different stages of the workflow.

According to Endra, its platform can complete the electrical design of a 500,000-square-foot commercial building in less than one day, compared with approximately two months using conventional workflows. This is a company-reported performance claim, not an independently verified industry benchmark.

Power Studio incorporates several capabilities designed to standardize engineering processes and automate repetitive activities.

One of its central features, Playbooks, lets engineering firms preserve internal standards for equipment placement, electrical circuit design, code interpretation, and calculation methods.

Firms can then apply these standards consistently across AI agents and engineering workflows. The system is also intended to help firms retain institutional knowledge as experienced engineers retire or transition into other positions.

The platform’s AI agents can handle specific tasks, including developing cable-routing strategies, placing equipment throughout building models, and updating electrical designs when architectural plans change.

Endra has also developed a physics-based simulation engine that evaluates engineering designs against physical constraints and applicable building codes. The engine can calculate cable sizing and voltage drops, helping engineers identify potential problems before construction begins.

Another feature, Type Rooms, allows engineers working on healthcare facilities, hotels, and multifamily residential developments to complete the design of one room and automatically apply it to other rooms with matching specifications.

This capability is intended to eliminate repetitive design work in buildings containing hundreds of similar spaces.

Power Studio also includes a document-generation engine that can produce Revit models, single-line electrical diagrams, shop drawings, panelboard schedules, and bills of materials.

By generating these documents from a connected engineering model, Endra aims to reduce the need to manually update multiple files as designs evolve.

The company emphasized that engineers remain responsible for establishing requirements, reviewing results, and approving designs throughout the process.

Endra also said it does not train its AI models on customer data. Its platform holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications, has undergone a Cyber Essentials Plus assessment, and is designed to comply with GDPR requirements.

Alongside Power Studio’s launch, Endra announced its acquisition of Planlabs, expanding its development roadmap into mechanical engineering.

Founded in Switzerland in June 2024, Planlabs is an AI research company whose team includes five PhDs specializing in mathematics and computer science.

The company has developed geometry, data-processing, and physics-based technologies designed to automate mechanical system design while accounting for physical constraints and avoiding conflicts between building components.

Endra intends to integrate Planlabs’ technology and engineering team into its platform, eventually introducing AI-powered mechanical engineering capabilities alongside Power Studio’s electrical design tools.

The acquisition is both a technology and talent investment, with Planlabs’ mechanical engineering capabilities expected to become available following completion of the integration process.

Endra also plans to introduce a plumbing engineering module in 2027, advancing its objective of developing a unified AI platform covering all three MEP disciplines.

The company currently works with major engineering consulting firms, including AtkinsRéalis, Ramboll, Buro Happold, Hoare Lea, and AFRY.

Its enterprise relationships span North America, Europe, and the Middle East, where large engineering organizations are evaluating AI technology to improve design productivity and support increasingly complex construction projects.

Endra is also expanding its geographic presence beyond Stockholm, establishing operations in New York, San Francisco, and London.

Power Studio was introduced at Epoch, Endra’s launch event in Las Vegas, held ahead of Autodesk University. The event brought together engineering and technology executives to discuss AI’s potential role in transforming building design.

The combination of new funding, Power Studio’s launch, and the Planlabs acquisition provides Endra with additional resources and technology as it pursues its longer-term goal of automating repetitive engineering work across the construction industry.

KEY QUOTES:

“Endra takes care of the repetitive work, and gives the engineers back the time for judgment and design. A firm’s engineering judgment is its product, and Playbooks let a firm hold that as a standard its whole team designs against, with the engineer setting the requirements and signing off at every stage.”

Niklas Lindgren, CEO And Co-Founder Of Endra

“We started Planlabs with the belief that mechanical systems can be engineered fundamentally differently, automatically generating coordinated, collision-free solutions while keeping the engineer in control.”

“With Endra, we have found a team that shares this vision and has the ambition, technology and reach to bring it to engineers around the world. Together, we have the opportunity to build something much bigger: a platform that transforms how every MEP discipline is engineered.”

Rea Sodero, Co-Founder And CEO Of Planlabs
