EnergyCAP, a State College, Pennsylvania-based utility and energy management software provider, has secured a strategic investment from LLR Partners to accelerate product development and market expansion. Resurgens Technology Partners, which initially invested in EnergyCAP in 2021, will remain an active investor alongside LLR. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
EnergyCAP provides a centralized platform that helps organizations manage utility expenses, energy consumption, and emissions information. The company serves more than 750 organizations across government, education, healthcare, and commercial markets, collectively tracking more than $50 billion in annual utility bill value.
The new investment comes as organizations face rising utility expenses, evolving energy requirements, and increasing pressure to improve operational efficiency.
For many businesses and institutions, energy represents a substantial operating expense. However, utility information is often distributed across multiple providers, locations, invoices, and disconnected systems, complicating efforts to understand consumption patterns and identify cost-saving opportunities.
EnergyCAP’s software consolidates this information into a single platform, enabling finance, facilities, and sustainability teams to manage utility expenses and emissions data more efficiently.
The company’s technology incorporates purpose-built automation and AI-enabled capabilities to improve data processing, reduce manual work, identify errors, and generate insights that support operational and financial decisions.
The investment from LLR Partners will support EnergyCAP’s product roadmap and geographic expansion as the company develops additional capabilities for organizations managing complex physical facilities and utility expenditures.
For LLR, the investment aligns with its focus on industrial technology and software businesses addressing the operational complexity of managing physical spaces.
The firm’s investment strategy centers on companies providing technology-enabled services and software solutions that help organizations improve business processes.
EnergyCAP’s established customer relationships and specialized utility management platform provide LLR and Resurgens with an opportunity to support continued growth in a market increasingly influenced by energy costs, infrastructure modernization, and sustainability requirements.
Resurgens has supported EnergyCAP since 2021, during which time the company expanded its product platform and strengthened its position in utility and energy management.
The continuation of that relationship, alongside LLR’s investment, provides EnergyCAP with additional financial resources and access to two experienced technology investment firms.
Founded in 1999, LLR Partners has raised more than $7.9 billion across seven funds and partnered with over 140 companies. The Philadelphia-based firm focuses on lower-middle-market software and technology-enabled businesses.
Resurgens Technology Partners, headquartered in Atlanta, invests in North American and select European application and infrastructure software companies.
William Blair served as financial advisor and King & Spalding as legal counsel to EnergyCAP and its shareholders. Lincoln International advised LLR financially, while Goodwin Procter provided legal counsel.
