EnergyHub has acquired Resideo Grid Services in a strategic deal that significantly strengthens its position in the rapidly expanding Virtual Power Plant market. The deal, announced in New York, combines two major players in distributed energy resource management at a time when utilities are looking for unified platforms capable of orchestrating millions of devices at the grid edge as electricity demand accelerates.
The integration of Resideo Grid Services into EnergyHub brings demand response expertise, an extensive portfolio of utility clients, and a robust history of program management into EnergyHub’s Edge DERMS platform. By consolidating DER management into a single system, the combined company aims to give utilities a more comprehensive set of tools to scale VPPs, support load growth, and incorporate a broader mix of distributed energy resources, including batteries, electric vehicles, and other emerging technologies.
EnergyHub noted that VPPs are becoming critical to utility planning and operations as the industry looks for cost-effective solutions to meet rising capacity needs. With the addition of Resideo Grid Services, EnergyHub now manages more than 2.5 million distributed energy resources through one platform, enhancing visibility, control, and program deployment capabilities for more than 120 utility partners serving over 55 million customers.
The acquisition also expands the capabilities available to existing Resideo Grid Services clients, who will gain access to a broader array of DER options and a more integrated system for launching or growing programs. The companies emphasized that the combined operations will make it easier for utilities to manage increasingly complex portfolios of distributed assets efficiently and at scale.
EnergyHub, a subsidiary of Alarm.com, continues to build on its position as a leading provider of grid-edge DERMS technology. Resideo Grid Services has operated as a significant force in demand response since 2012, supporting nearly 300 U.S. utility programs and participating in six wholesale markets. The acquisition brings together complementary platforms and teams with the stated goal of helping utilities accelerate the transition to a more flexible, reliable, and clean energy grid. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
