Enigmata has emerged from stealth with $6.5 million in seed funding led by Blockchange Ventures to commercialize Enigmata Cipher, its patent-pending cryptographic platform designed to let AI systems work with data while it remains encrypted.
Cipher is designed for sensitive AI workflows including model training on proprietary datasets, enterprise use of third-party AI systems, semantic search, analytics and agentic applications.
The platform transforms records, documents and datasets into encrypted formats that can be used by AI, analytics and search tools on existing enterprise hardware.
Enigmata said internal benchmarks showed models trained on Cipher-protected data matching the accuracy of models trained on raw data while completing training 8% to 10% faster.
Cipher can also support targeted removal of individual records without requiring an entire model to be retrained, potentially helping organizations respond to data deletion requirements.
The company is initially targeting organizations including banks, insurers, health systems, life sciences companies, publishers, data providers and AI model owners that possess valuable datasets they cannot safely expose.
Enigmata’s longer-term strategy includes building infrastructure for secure data licensing, allowing organizations to make encrypted datasets available for AI training under defined usage terms while maintaining control of the underlying data.
Enigmata Cipher is currently available to selected enterprise design partners.
KEY QUOTES:
“Every era of computing has forced a choice between using data and protecting it. Enigmata Cipher ends that trade-off. The world’s most valuable data no longer has to stay locked away to stay protected. When hospitals, banks, and publishers can safely use their most sensitive assets in AI, we stop asking what AI is allowed to know and start asking what it can safely discover, prevent, and create.”
Scott Searle, Co-Founder and CEO of Enigmata
“Privacy is the next great frontier for AI. Every advance in hardware and models only matters if customers are comfortable putting their most sensitive data into AI. Enigmata built encryption for exactly that, from the ground up. We believe Enigmata Cipher will become a core pillar of the AI data economy, defining how sensitive data is used, licensed, and monetized in the AI era.”
