Entegrata Appoints Andrew Baker As Chief AI And Data Strategy Officer

Entegrata has appointed Andrew Baker as Chief AI and Data Strategy Officer to lead the development of its artificial intelligence enablement strategy for law firms.

Baker joins Entegrata from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where he spent more than five years advancing the use of data science and emerging technology across the firm’s legal and business operations.

In his new role, Baker will oversee Entegrata’s AI roadmap across engineering, product development and customer experience. His responsibilities will focus on helping law firms prepare their internal data and documents for use with AI models, agents and other emerging legal technologies.

Entegrata provides a data lakehouse platform built specifically for law firms. The platform is designed to consolidate matter, operational and financial information that may otherwise remain distributed across separate databases, applications and practice groups.

A data lakehouse combines the flexibility of a data lake with the organization and governance commonly associated with a data warehouse. For law firms, this can create a central source of information that supports reporting, analytics and AI-powered applications.

Baker will focus on helping firms make more of their internal content AI-ready while creating the context that models need to accurately reason over legal and operational data.

This includes structuring information, maintaining clear permissions and establishing governance controls around confidential client data.

The role will also emphasize technology flexibility. Entegrata wants firms to be able to adopt new AI products or switch between frontier models without having to rebuild their underlying data infrastructure each time.

Law firms are increasingly experimenting with AI for legal research, document review, drafting, knowledge management, pricing and business operations. However, the effectiveness of these systems depends heavily on the quality and organization of the information they can access.

When data remains fragmented across matter-management systems, financial platforms, document repositories and individual practice groups, AI tools may receive incomplete context or produce inconsistent results.

Entegrata is positioning the data layer as the foundation for durable, firm-wide AI programs rather than a back-office reporting function.

The company said confidentiality, accuracy and governance are particularly important within the legal industry. A unified platform can help firms establish clearer controls over which users and AI applications can access particular information.

It can also provide models with relationships among matters, clients, attorneys, documents, financial records and other data points that may be necessary to produce useful answers.

Baker brings more than two decades of experience spanning legal operations, technology, data and business strategy.

Before Simpson Thacher, he co-led the Legal Transformation and Innovation Practice at HBR Consulting, now known as Harbor.

He also held a senior leadership position at Seyfarth Shaw, where he established what Entegrata described as the legal industry’s first Legal Technology Innovations Office and helped pioneer the legal solutions architect role.

Legal solutions architects work across lawyers, clients and technology teams to design systems and workflows that address specific legal and business challenges.

Baker has advised law firms and corporate legal departments on technology transformation and has experience building client-facing teams and products.

Entegrata CEO Tom Baldwin said that background gives Baker a practical understanding of the difference between AI tools that perform well in controlled demonstrations and systems that can operate reliably across a law firm.

Baker joins as Entegrata reports growing adoption of its platform. Firms that have recently announced moves to the company’s lakehouse include Cleary Gottlieb, Mayer Brown, Wilson Sonsini, Winston Taylor, Mintz and Kilpatrick.

Entegrata said its platform can provide firms with unified reporting, semantic data models and preconfigured dashboards in weeks rather than years.

A semantic data model defines relationships and business meanings within data, helping users and AI systems interpret information consistently across different applications.

Baker will lead Entegrata’s efforts to build on this foundation by helping customers make their collective knowledge more accessible to approved AI tools.

The company believes that legal and technical teams should be able to focus on developing new services and workflows rather than repeatedly cleaning, connecting and governing underlying data.

KEY QUOTES:

“Andrew has lived this problem from inside one of the most prestigious firms on the planet, so he knows what it takes to make AI dependable across a real practice.”

“His mandate is simple: prepare firm data and context so any model or tool it chooses actually delivers. That is the layer most of the industry is still missing, and it is what Andrew will build for our clients.”

Tom Baldwin, Founder and CEO of Entegrata

“The firms pulling ahead have realized that a robust data layer is no longer a back-office convenience. It is the enablement framework that their entire AI and data strategy rests upon.”

“Without a governed data platform, every model and agent is working from little or fragmented context, and the results show it. With one, however, a firm’s collective knowledge becomes something its tools can query with confidence, and the value of these systems can compound.”

“Progressive legal and technical teams within firms should be spending their time delivering creative solutions, not wrestling with the underlying data.”
