Entegris, a global leader in advanced materials science, has announced a $700 million investment in domestic R&D spending over the next several years, in collaboration with the Trump Administration, aimed at accelerating innovation in the semiconductor industry. Key R&D projects will focus on developing next-generation deposition materials and advanced purification processes to address emerging challenges in chip manufacturing, to support ever-smaller, more powerful, and energy-efficient devices.

This investment will be distributed across Entegris’ two divisions, Materials Solutions and Advanced Purity Solutions, and will include substantial upgrades to its Aurora, Illinois, location. Strategically situated between major semiconductor hubs, the Aurora facility is poised to become a state-of-the-art U.S. Technology Center, serving as a cornerstone for Entegris’ sales strategy. This holistic approach emphasizes integrating multiple complementary products and services to optimize performance and minimize time-to-market for chipmakers.

Among the wide range of products advancing with this investment are CMP pads, which are used in the chemical-mechanical planarization process to smooth semiconductor wafers and ensure precise layer thickness and uniformity. Deposition materials, essential for layering conductive or insulating films onto chips, and advanced purification processes that remove contaminants to enable higher yields, are also critical areas of focus.

This initiative is expected to create over 200 new jobs at the Aurora facility and significantly increase Entegris’ production capacity, strengthening the company’s ability to supply advanced materials to U.S. chipmakers and maintain its leadership in technology innovation. The announcement follows Entegris’ previous $700 million commitment to develop a manufacturing center of excellence in Colorado Springs, Colorado, reinforcing its long-term dedication to expanding domestic semiconductor manufacturing.
