Epiq Acquires Canopy To Expand AI-Powered Cyber Incident Response Platform

Epiq has acquired Canopy, a data breach response technology company, expanding its cybersecurity capabilities by combining Canopy’s patented technology with its existing cyber incident response services and artificial intelligence platform.

The transaction will bring Canopy’s technology, engineering team, and cyber response specialists into Epiq’s organization. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition builds on an existing partnership between the two companies, which have previously collaborated on helping organizations respond to cybersecurity incidents.

Canopy develops software to help businesses assess the information exposed in data breaches and identify which individuals may have been affected.

Its platform analyzes compromised data, detects sensitive information, and identifies potentially impacted individuals.

These capabilities are important components of cyber incident response, particularly when organizations must analyze large volumes of data to determine the scope of an incident and meet applicable notification requirements.

Canopy’s technology includes Auto Review, an agentic AI capability designed to automate initial data mining and review.

The feature allows response teams to move from identifying relevant data directly into quality control, potentially reducing the time required for the initial review process.

Epiq intends to integrate the Canopy platform into Epiq AI, its suite of agentic AI solutions.

The technology will also be accessible through Epiq Service Cloud, which provides clients with access to legal technology and related professional services.

The integration is intended to create a more connected cyber incident response workflow, combining automated data analysis with Epiq’s existing services.

For organizations responding to cybersecurity incidents, the combined platform will provide additional capabilities to evaluate exposed information, identify affected individuals, and coordinate notification activities.

The acquisition also expands Epiq’s internal product development organization.

Adi Elliott, Canopy’s former Chief Operating Officer, has joined Epiq as Vice President of Product Management, Cyber.

Elliott brings experience leading software and services businesses across legal technology, cyber incident response, and data-driven operations.

He will contribute to the development of Epiq’s cyber technology portfolio as the company integrates Canopy’s platform and engineering capabilities.

Canopy’s engineers and cyber response specialists will also join Epiq, contributing to the continued development of Epiq AI for Cyber.

Epiq is seeking to expand the use of AI throughout the incident response process, including initial data assessment, document review, and notification preparation.

The company reports that it works with more than 87% of breach counsel and over 70% of cyber insurers.

Its existing cyber incident response operations support more than 1,800 incidents annually.

According to Epiq, its use of artificial intelligence can reduce the volume of data requiring further review by up to 95%, while its notification infrastructure can support up to 2 million notifications per day.

These figures describe the company’s reported capabilities and operating scale, not guaranteed performance for every incident.

The combination of Canopy’s technology and Epiq’s global service infrastructure is intended to support organizations before, during, and after cybersecurity incidents.

Headquartered in New York, Epiq provides technology and professional services to corporations, law firms, and courts.

Its operations span 17 countries, supported by approximately 4,000 employees worldwide.

The Canopy acquisition expands its cyber incident response technology while adding engineering resources to its broader legal technology and AI development organization.
