Epitel has raised $26 million in Series B financing to expand its wireless brain-monitoring technology and make extended electroencephalogram testing more accessible outside traditional hospital settings. The round was co-led by Catalyst Health Ventures and Genoa Ventures, with participation from new and existing investors. Epitel will use the funding to expand the commercial availability of its REMI Remote EEG Monitoring System and support broader adoption by healthcare providers.
An electroencephalogram, or EEG, records electrical activity in the brain and can help clinicians detect seizures and diagnose neurological conditions.
Epitel is initially focused on seizure detection and diagnosis. The company said approximately 9.2 million people in the United States experience seizures annually, while 40% lack access to EEG testing. Only about 27% of U.S. hospitals have EEG capacity, according to figures cited by the company.
Many seizures do not produce visible physical symptoms, making objective brain-activity data important for diagnosis. However, seizures can be infrequent and unpredictable, while traditional EEG monitoring is often limited to approximately 72 hours.
As a result, a patient may complete a test without experiencing a seizure during the recording period, potentially delaying diagnosis for months or longer.
Epitel’s REMI platform uses wireless wearable sensors that enable patients to monitor their brains at home while engaging in normal daily activities. The system can collect EEG data over several weeks, giving clinicians a longer period to capture potential seizure activity.
The company has received five U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearances across its wireless EEG monitoring and AI-assisted event detection technologies.
REMI Vigilenz AI for Event Detection analyzes EEG recordings and flags activity that may represent a seizure. This is intended to help clinicians review lengthy recordings more efficiently while maintaining responsibility for diagnosis and treatment decisions.
The REMI platform is cleared for neurological monitoring in patients as young as one year old. Its AI-assisted event detection capability is available for patients aged six and older.
Epitel plans to use part of the Series B financing to expand its sales, marketing and customer experience teams. The company is building a dedicated field organization to introduce REMI to more hospitals, neurological practices and ambulatory care providers.
The funding will also support provider adoption by simplifying the distribution, deployment, and integration of the technology into existing clinical workflows.
Epitel is particularly focused on expanding access in the ambulatory market. The company believes its wireless design can bring extended seizure monitoring to patients who live far from specialized medical centers or who may have difficulty completing inpatient testing.
The platform could also support younger patients and families by reducing the need to remain connected to traditional equipment in an unfamiliar hospital setting.
Epitel said the system is designed to reduce the clinical burden associated with reviewing long-duration EEG recordings. AI-assisted detection can draw attention to sections of a recording that may contain relevant events, allowing clinicians to focus their review.
The company is not positioning the AI system as a replacement for neurologists. Instead, the technology is intended to support clinicians by organizing large volumes of neurological data and helping them identify potential events requiring further evaluation.
Epitel expects the financing to deepen its clinical footprint across the United States and help establish extended wireless EEG monitoring as a more widely available option for seizure diagnosis and disease tracking.
The company is headquartered in Salt Lake City and develops cloud-based wearable sensor systems and AI technologies for brain health monitoring.
Catalyst Health Ventures focuses on medical technology investments. Joshua Phillips, the firm’s founder and managing partner, also serves as chairman of Epitel’s board of directors.
