Eva Live has signed a letter of intent to acquire a controlling 51% stake in Airbeam Wireless Technologies. The proposed transaction values Airbeam at approximately $16 million and gives Eva Live an option to acquire the remaining 49%.
The acquisition would add more than 260 patents and semiconductor design assets covering WiHD, WiGig and advanced millimeter-wave communications. Eva Live plans to combine these technologies with its artificial intelligence platform to develop communications systems for defense, commercial and potential space applications.
Airbeam was founded in 2019 and develops 60-gigahertz wireless connectivity technology for next-generation networks and autonomous systems. Its product portfolio includes intellectual property acquired from Lattice Semiconductor.
The technology traces its development history through research and commercialization programs involving the University of California, Berkeley’s Berkeley Wireless Research Center, SiBeam, Silicon Image and Lattice Semiconductor. Airbeam’s historical documentation indicates that the underlying technology lineage benefited from more than $150 million in cumulative research, development and commercialization investment.
Eva Live believes acquiring an established technology platform could accelerate its product roadmap compared with developing comparable semiconductor and wireless capabilities internally. The company expects the intellectual property and engineering history to provide a foundation for new AI-enabled communications products.
Airbeam’s modules provide multi-gigabit wireless backhaul for high-bandwidth communications and real-time edge AI processing. The company has also developed smart-city infrastructure through its Mesh Smart platform and contributes to the decentralized ROAM OpenRoaming network.
Eva Live intends to use the acquisition to expand Eva Defense, its subsidiary focused on artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and resilient military communications. The companies plan to develop networking architecture capable of supporting autonomous drone swarms.
Airbeam’s directional millimeter-wave technology is designed to establish secure, adaptive and high-bandwidth communications between autonomous systems. Unlike omnidirectional radio systems, directional communications can concentrate signals along specific paths, potentially reducing interference and improving network performance.
When combined with Eva Live’s AI platform, future systems could dynamically establish communications links, reroute around disruptions and coordinate mission activity. The company also envisions software that could optimize network configurations and synchronize groups of autonomous aircraft in real time.
These capabilities could be important in contested electromagnetic environments where military communications face interference, jamming or physical disruption. Eva Live believes adaptive mesh networks could improve the resilience and intelligence of autonomous defense systems.
The company also plans to explore edge AI infrastructure for military and commercial platforms. Edge computing processes information closer to where it is generated, reducing the need to transmit all data to centralized cloud infrastructure.
Beyond defense, Eva Live sees potential uses across smart cities and satellite communications. Airbeam’s technology could support high-capacity connections between devices, infrastructure and autonomous systems operating in dense environments.
Eva Live also identified inter-satellite networking as a longer-term opportunity. Directional millimeter-wave communications could potentially allow satellites within large constellations to exchange data while limiting interference and improving bandwidth efficiency.
The company believes related technologies could eventually support communications infrastructure for lunar habitats, robotic exploration, autonomous mining and scientific facilities. These potential space applications remain conceptual and would require additional development, testing and commercialization.
Following completion, Eva Defense plans to focus on autonomous drone swarm communications, adaptive beamforming, distributed mesh networks and edge AI. Other planned areas include smart-city infrastructure, satellite networking and potential lunar communications systems.
Eva Live estimates that the defense, satellite and AI communications infrastructure markets could represent a combined global opportunity of approximately $3 trillion over the coming decades. That figure represents the company’s long-term market assessment rather than contracted revenue or a formal financial forecast.
The proposed transaction remains subject to negotiation of definitive agreements and other closing requirements. The announcement did not specify the expected completion date or the consideration Eva Live would use to purchase the initial stake.
