Everforth ECS has secured a three-year, $115 million contract from the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Army Research Laboratory.
The company will serve as the prime contractor supporting the Nautilus for AI Research and Development program, which is intended to accelerate the development, testing and operational integration of advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.
Everforth ECS will research, develop and evaluate trusted AI technologies for Army applications.
Its work will focus on moving AI capabilities from laboratory experimentation into mission environments where military personnel can use them to support operational decisions.
The company will apply its experience in AI development, software engineering, cybersecurity, systems integration, field deployment and testing.
A major focus will be securely operating AI in environments with limited communications bandwidth and computing resources.
Unlike commercial data centers with extensive processing capacity and reliable connectivity, military systems may need to function in remote or contested locations where networks are disrupted and hardware resources are limited.
Everforth will evaluate approaches for integrating AI with existing platforms, systems and workflows while maintaining mission assurance and human oversight.
The research is also expected to help the Department of War identify repeatable methods for deploying trusted AI across a wider range of military programs.
The contract expands Everforth ECS’s role in defense AI research and could create additional technical positions involving secure software development, cybersecurity, systems integration and AI engineering.
