Evolution Metals Targets 10,000 Metric Tons Of Rare Earth Magnet Production Before End Of 2026

Evolution Metals & Technologies is targeting an annualized production rate of approximately 10,000 metric tons of rare earth permanent magnets before the end of 2026, an aggressive scale-up intended to establish a commercial non-China supply source ahead of new U.S. defense sourcing restrictions.

The expansion is centered on 13 high-performance sintered magnet-production machines from ULVAC Korea, with delivery and installation scheduled for November. Once commissioned, Evolution Metals expects the equipment to provide approximately 10,000 metric tons of annual magnet capacity, including roughly 6,000 metric tons of high-performance sintered magnets.

Evolution Metals has arranged a $100 million convertible-debenture facility with Yorkville Advisors Global to help finance the expansion. It issued $20 million under the facility in May and another $5.775 million in July, leaving up to approximately $74.2 million available in subsequent tranches.

The company is also working to establish feedstock independence from China. It entered a bulk-supply agreement for neodymium-praseodymium metal produced by SRE Vietnam and received its first five-metric-ton shipment in July. Evolution Metals characterized it as the first commercial shipment of non-China NdPr received by a U.S.-listed producer for DFARS-compliant magnet manufacturing, based on its knowledge.

On the customer-qualification side, its subsidiaries completed OEM qualification with two Tier-1 electronics companies across six NdFeB grades, including N48M, N50M, N42H, N45H, N35SH and N46SH. The company views those qualifications as critical for accessing defense-prime and Tier-1 electronics supply chains.

The scale-up is occurring from a relatively small current revenue base. Q2 revenue was approximately $1.64 million, compared with no consolidated revenue in the prior-year quarter, while gross loss was $115,000 as the operating subsidiaries prioritized qualification work and preparation for the planned capacity expansion.

Q2 net loss narrowed to $11.9 million from $40.9 million, although adjusted net loss increased to $13.6 million from $7.4 million. Evolution Metals ended June with approximately $5.25 million of cash, down from $11.69 million at the end of 2025, underscoring the importance of the Yorkville financing facility as capital spending increases.

The company has also added manufacturing expertise ahead of the ramp. Kenji Konishi, formerly Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at JL MAG Rare Earth, was appointed Head of Magnet Engineering Production along with a team of Japanese magnet-manufacturing veterans.

If the equipment schedule, commissioning and production ramp occur as planned, the end-of-2026 target would move Evolution Metals from a small existing commercial operation into a substantially larger rare earth magnet manufacturing platform just as U.S. defense sourcing requirements tighten.
