Expanse Raises $5.3 Million Seed Round To Improve Infrastructure Utilization

Expanse, an AI infrastructure startup focused on helping companies get more work from existing computing hardware, has raised $5.3 million in seed funding.

Crane Venture Partners led the round, with participation from PXN Group, Y Combinator, Standard Capital, Scribble Ventures, AIP Seed, General Advance, Ritual Capital, Robinhood Ventures and Twenty Two Ventures.

Expanse is developing technology that predicts the computing resources an AI workload will need before the workload begins running.

The company says that capability can allow teams to complete as much as twice the amount of work using the same hardware, potentially improving utilization of increasingly expensive AI infrastructure.

The problem has become more significant as companies build GPU clusters for AI training, inference, and agentic workloads. Infrastructure teams frequently allocate more compute and memory than a job ultimately requires to avoid failures or unpredictable performance.

That additional capacity can remain idle even while organizations face GPU shortages and rising infrastructure costs.

Expanse’s approach is aimed at reducing that inefficiency by forecasting workload requirements more precisely before execution, giving infrastructure operators an opportunity to fit more jobs onto available hardware.

The financing gives the company additional capital to develop the platform and expand deployments as AI infrastructure operators focus increasingly on extracting more output from existing GPU fleets rather than relying solely on continued hardware purchases.

Expanse participated in Y Combinator’s P26 batch, according to the company’s LinkedIn announcement.
