Expedia Group announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Ireland-based CarTrawler, a B2B platform specializing in car rental, ground transport, and Insurtech solutions for the global travel industry. The acquisition advances Expedia Group’s strategy of building a more comprehensive B2B travel platform by expanding beyond lodging and activities into mobility services.

CarTrawler currently connects more than 550 car rental suppliers and over 500 mobility suppliers with more than 300 travel brands worldwide, including more than 70 airlines. The company’s platform supports ancillary travel services through partnerships with airlines, online travel agencies, and other travel providers.

Expedia Group said the acquisition will create new growth opportunities across its ecosystem. Supply partners are expected to gain access to broader demand through Expedia Group’s global distribution network, while B2B demand partners will benefit from expanded access to car rental, ground transport, and Insurtech offerings at competitive rates. Travelers booking through Expedia Group brands and partner platforms are also expected to gain access to a wider range of transportation options and pricing.

Alfonso Paredes, President B2B & Chief Commercial Officer at Expedia Group, said the acquisition builds on the company’s broader B2B expansion strategy following its acquisition of Tiqets.

Peter O’Donovan, CEO of CarTrawler, said the transaction validates the company’s technology platform, innovation strategy, and commercial growth trajectory while creating additional opportunities for expansion as part of Expedia Group.

The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close during the second half of 2026.

Expedia Group operates a global travel marketplace that includes consumer brands such as Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo, alongside a large B2B travel business and advertising network. CarTrawler operates its proprietary Connect Platform across more than 50,000 locations globally and works with partners including Ryanair, American Airlines, Air France-KLM, Uber, easyJet, eDreams ODIGEO, and American Express.

KEY QUOTES:

“The CarTrawler acquisition is another huge, exciting step towards our ambition of building the most complete B2B travel platform. Last year, Expedia Group B2B set out a bold vision to expand our APIs beyond lodging. Acquiring Tiqets helped us solve for activities at scale. Adding CarTrawler now extends that same strategy into car rentals, ground transport and Insurtech. CarTrawler’s focus and differentiated expertise in these areas complements our strengths in B2B scale and technology, enabling us to massively amplify our joint value proposition to partners, suppliers, and travelers.”
