Exus Renewables North America announced it has acquired Ozone Renewables in a move designed to strengthen its in-house greenfield development capabilities and expand its early-stage project pipeline.
The acquisition marks the company’s first organizational acquisition and represents a strategic shift toward building a more integrated renewable energy development platform across wind, solar, and energy storage projects.
Under the deal, Exus will internalize early-stage project origination rather than rely primarily on acquiring projects from third-party developers. Ozone Renewables brings a team experienced in securing land control and advancing renewable energy projects from concept through early development.
According to the announcement, Ozone’s team has helped partners commercialize more than 3 GW of operational wind projects and has contributed gigawatts of utility-scale solar projects to development pipelines across multiple markets. The team also has experience navigating complex regulatory environments in regions such as New York, Pennsylvania, and the Pacific Northwest.
As part of the acquisition, Ozone founder Daniel Boyd and the team’s expertise and pipeline will now be integrated into Exus’ development platform. Larry Seiler will lead the newly established greenfield development team.
The deal includes Ozone’s pipeline of early-stage wind, solar, and storage projects, along with project concepts currently in land control and early development phases. The team will focus on development across PJM, MISO, WECC, and SPP territories, working alongside Exus’ existing regional development teams.
Exus Renewables North America is an independent owner, developer, and operator of utility-scale renewable energy projects. The company operates from offices in Pittsburgh, New York, and Albuquerque and employs more than 100 people. Its portfolio totals over 5.8 gigawatts, with 764 MW currently operating or under construction as the company continues to expand its footprint in the U.S. renewable energy sector.
KEY QUOTES:
“This strategic partnership allows us to bring proven greenfield expertise in-house at a critical time for the industry. Rather than continuously acquiring early-stage projects from external developers, we can now originate and develop projects internally with a tried-and-true team. This positions Exus to focus our development efforts in markets where we see the strongest competitive future for renewable energy.”
