  • Facebook has reportedly acquired customer service bot company Servicefriend. These are the details about the deal.

Facebook has confirmed that it has acquired a customer service bot company called Servicefriend, according to TechCrunch. Servicefriend co-founders Ido Arad and Shahar Ben Ami are now listed as a care experience manager and a product manager of Facebook’s Calibra digital wallet service, respectively.

Calibra is a newly formed subsidiary of Facebook that has a goal of providing financial services that will let people access and participate in the Libra cryptocurrency network.

This deal was originally reported in Israel after one of Servicefriend’s investors Roberto Singler told The Marker about it.

“We acquire smaller tech companies from time to time. We don’t always discuss our plans,” said a Facebook spokesperson about the deal. That is a standard statement Facebook makes about its undisclosed acquisitions.

Facebook did not disclose what the Servicefriend team will be working on. But it seems likely that it will involve chatbots for the cryptocurrency service. Prior to the acquisition, Facebook worked with Servicefriend to create hybrid bots on Messenger for scaling its services.

“We are thrilled to share that Servicefriend is now moving to the next chapter of our exciting journey. Over the past four years, we managed to standout and build a great platform for brands to deliver excellent experiences at scale over WhatsApp and Messenger. Our mission to transform the way business interact with people and to let people communicate with businesses as they do with their friends has always been our raison d’etre,” says the Servicefriend homepage.
