FactorLab has received a strategic growth investment from Falfurrias Growth Partners to expand its artificial intelligence platform for improving safety and operational performance in high-risk work environments. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The investment will support continued development of FactorLab’s proprietary AI and machine learning technology. The Pleasanton, California-based company also plans to expand its commercial organization and enter additional industries where organizations need greater visibility into frontline safety and operational risks.
FactorLab serves enterprise customers across construction, utilities, energy and industrial markets. Its SmartTagIt platform captures and analyzes conversations, decisions and work practices involving employees operating across distributed jobsites.
The platform uses natural language processing and machine learning to identify early signals that work may be delayed, performed inconsistently or exposed to safety risks. FactorLab converts this previously unstructured field information into insights that supervisors and executives can use to improve planning and address problems before they escalate.
SmartTagIt has analyzed more than two million daily planning conversations across thousands of worksites during the past five years. The platform currently uses more than 40 proprietary AI models to evaluate areas such as worker engagement, planning quality and leadership performance.
FactorLab also uses its dataset to create industry benchmarks. Customers can compare the quality and consistency of their frontline operations with peers and identify locations, teams or processes that may require additional attention.
The company’s mobile-first interface is designed to replace static checklists with a more interactive experience integrated into daily workflows. FactorLab believes increasing worker participation gives organizations a more accurate understanding of how work is actually being performed.
The platform can surface risk signals and operational “game tape,” allowing teams to review decisions and practices associated with successful or unsuccessful outcomes. These insights are intended to help companies reduce rework, improve project delivery and strengthen workplace safety.
The investment was made through Falfurrias Growth Partners I, a growth buyout strategy launched by Falfurrias Management Partners in 2023. The fund focuses on high-growth software and business services companies that can benefit from operational support.
Falfurrias plans to help FactorLab expand its sales capabilities, strengthen its products and enter adjacent industrial markets. The investment firm has experience supporting AI-enabled software companies and businesses serving industrial customers.
Piers Wells, an Industry First executive affiliated with Falfurrias, will join FactorLab’s board of directors. He brings experience in industrial technology, operations and go-to-market strategies for businesses serving FactorLab’s target sectors.
Falfurrias Management Partners has raised approximately $4 billion across eight funds since its founding in 2006. Its internal resources span strategy, market research, finance, integration, human capital and technology.
Ernst & Young Capital Advisors served as FactorLab’s exclusive financial adviser on the transaction. Holland & Knight served as legal adviser to Falfurrias.
