FamilyWell Health: $8 Million Series A Raised To Advance National Growth In Women’s Mental Health Care

By Amit Chowdhry ● Nov 22, 2025

FamilyWell Health has raised $8 million in fresh Series A financing to expand its integrated women’s mental health services nationwide. The round was led by New Markets Venture Partners, with participation from .406 Ventures, GreyMatter Capital, The Alix Foundation, The Donna Fund, and The Lee Foundation.

The investment will support FamilyWell’s plans to scale its clinical partnerships across the United States, strengthen its AI-enabled care platform, broaden its services into perimenopause and menopause care, and expand its provider training programs through the FamilyWell Academy.

The company aims to address a widening gap in women’s mental health care, an area that continues to face significant strain despite growing need. Data shows that women are twice as likely as men to experience depression and anxiety, with nearly one in three facing a mental health condition during their lifetime. Suicide has become the leading cause of maternal death during pregnancy and postpartum, and even when screenings are recommended, access remains limited. Fewer than 10% of Medicaid members and fewer than 4% of privately insured patients are screened for postpartum depression, and up to 80% of affected women remain untreated. At midlife, an estimated 50 million women are navigating perimenopause and menopause, with approximately 70% experiencing meaningful mental health symptoms.

Founded in 2022 by Dr. Jessica Gaulton, a Harvard physician and survivor of postpartum depression, FamilyWell embeds virtual mental health services directly into OB/GYN clinics and health systems. The model integrates care coordination, coaching, therapy, and psychiatry into standard clinical workflows. Patients can be connected to care within 24 hours and are supported by specialized mental health providers. Among pregnant patients, one in four are referred to FamilyWell, and 95% experience clinical improvement by four months. The integrated approach also reduces strain on clinicians while enabling clinics to capture previously untapped revenue from reimbursements.

FamilyWell currently operates in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Illinois, and Texas, covering more than 200,000 lives. Its recent partnership with one of the nation’s largest managed care organizations marks a meaningful step toward expanding access to insurance-covered coaching, therapy, and psychiatry for more women and birthing people nationwide.

The company is now extending its clinical model to serve women experiencing perimenopause and menopause, driven by strong demand from its OB/GYN partners. This expansion positions FamilyWell as a full-spectrum reproductive mental health provider supporting women from fertility through menopause.

FamilyWell is also advancing its training ecosystem through the FamilyWell Academy, which prepares new providers to deliver specialized reproductive mental health care. The organization’s Perinatal Behavioral Health and Peri-/Menopause Behavioral Health certification programs aim to help address the national provider shortage and ensure access to consistent, evidence-based support.

The new capital will support the company’s plans to deepen its clinical infrastructure, accelerate development of its AI capabilities, strengthen its partnerships with health systems, and expand its educational programs to meet rising demand.
