Figma Buying Weavy For Advancing AI-Native Media Creation

By Amit Chowdhry ● Nov 1, 2025

Figma has announced the acquisition of Weavy, an AI-driven media creation platform that integrates generative AI with professional editing tools. The newly formed entity, Figma Weave, will expand Figma’s creative ecosystem to include image, video, animation, motion design, and visual effects editing, all within a collaborative, browser-based environment.

Figma’s CEO and co-founder, Dylan Field, said the acquisition aligns with the company’s vision to blend human creativity with AI-powered generation. Figma Weave will enable users to move beyond simple prompts and engage in deeper creative exploration and refinement.

Weavy, founded in Tel Aviv in 2024, has rapidly built a diverse global community that includes independent creators, startups, and large enterprises. Its user base spans architects generating images for staging, VFX artists designing for video games and film, and marketing teams producing branded content. The platform’s node-based workspace enables users to combine and refine outputs from multiple leading AI models, including Seedance, Sora, Veo, Flux, Ideogram, Nano-Banana, and Seedream, while maintaining precision and creative control.

The Weavy founding team, comprised of Lior, Itay, and two co-founders named Jonathan, brings deep experience in visual effects, animation, and creative production. Together with Figma, they will continue to expand operations in Tel Aviv and other markets as part of the Figma Weave initiative.

Figma, founded in 2012, continues to evolve beyond its origins as a design tool into a fully connected AI-powered platform that enables teams to ideate, build, and ship products collaboratively. The addition of Figma Weave marks a significant step toward integrating generative AI directly into the creative workflow, enhancing craft, scalability, and user experience.

KEY QUOTES:

“AI is making it easier for anyone to take their ideas further, but we believe the first prompt is the creative starting point rather than the final destination. We see AI outputs as a new medium to mold, and we believe the combination of human craft alongside AI generation unlocks more expression and a bolder point of view. We’re now in an era where good enough is not enough—it’s merely mediocre. If you want to stand out, you have to push beyond the prompt to get to something great. We have acquired Weavy, joining our platform as Figma Weave, to help us build on this vision.”

“The Weavy team has inspired us with the balance they’ve struck between simplicity, approachability, and power. They’ve also created a tool that’s just a joy to use.”

“Behind Weavy is a brilliant team—led by founders Lior, Itay, Jonathan, and Jonathan—who each bring deep product and engineering expertise and backgrounds in visual effects, animation, and creative production. We share the same community focus, maker spirit, and deep love of craft, and together we have so many ideas for what we can build. We are already growing the team in Tel Aviv (and beyond) to support Figma Weave’s momentum and roadmap.”

“We’re excited for the new possibilities our collaboration will unlock, as we build a platform where AI enhances creativity and helps our users push the limits of their craft.”
