First Manhattan, an independently owned investment advisory firm with more than $36 billion in assets under management, announced that Beddow Capital Management has joined the firm, bringing more than $300 million in client assets and nearly four decades of investment experience.

Edward Beddow, founder of Beddow Capital Management, will join First Manhattan as senior managing director and portfolio manager. He will continue advising clients from Jackson, Wyoming while gaining access to the firm’s institutional research capabilities, wealth planning resources and integrated trust services.

The move reflects First Manhattan’s strategy of selectively adding experienced investors who share the firm’s long-term, research-driven approach to portfolio management. The firm emphasized that each addition is designed to strengthen client service while maintaining its culture of independent thinking and disciplined investment analysis.

Beddow said the partnership allows him to maintain the same investment philosophy that has defined his career while expanding the capabilities available to clients. His investment strategy focuses on concentrated portfolios, intrinsic value analysis and long-term ownership of businesses with strong capital allocation.

Beddow brings nearly 40 years of experience in financial markets. He began his career in investment banking at Dean Witter & Co. before transitioning fully into investment management. He holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Founded in 1964, First Manhattan provides research-driven investment management, customized wealth planning and trust services for clients and families. The firm remains independently owned and operated and traces its roots to early investment involvement in the entity that later became Berkshire Hathaway.

KEY QUOTES

“We are highly intentional about the investors and people we invite to join First Manhattan. Ed has built a thoughtful, client-centered practice that has been driven by successful fundamental investing over many decades. Just as importantly, he recognizes the benefit of joining a firm with the scale, infrastructure, and institutional stability that reinforces and enhances what he already does well.”
Zachary Wydra, Chief Executive Officer, First Manhattan

“Joining First Manhattan allows me to continue serving clients with the same investment philosophy that has defined my career. At the same time, the Firm’s research depth, operational strength, and integrated trust and wealth planning capabilities meaningfully broaden what we can deliver to clients over time. It was important to find a home that strengthens, rather than changes, how I invest and advise clients.”
