First Manhattan, a New York-based registered investment advisor with more than $36 billion in assets under management, announced that Beddow Capital Management, an RIA based in Jackson, Wyoming, has joined the firm.
Beddow Capital Management oversees more than $300 million in assets under management. Founder Edward Beddow will join First Manhattan as senior managing director and portfolio manager and will continue advising clients from Jackson.
Beddow brings nearly 40 years of experience in financial markets. He began his career in investment banking at Dean Witter & Co., then focused exclusively on investment management. Over time, he developed a concentrated investment approach emphasizing intrinsic value, disciplined capital allocation, and long-term ownership.
First Manhattan said the move reflects its strategy of selectively partnering with investors who share its focus on independent thinking, rigorous research, and long-term client relationships. The firm said that joining a larger platform can strengthen generational continuity and enhance client services through expanded research capabilities and integrated wealth-planning resources.
Founded in 1964, First Manhattan provides research-driven investment management, customized wealth planning, and trust services for clients.
KEY QUOTES:
“We are highly intentional about the investors and people we invite to join First Manhattan. Ed has built a thoughtful, client-centered practice that has been driven by successful fundamental investing over many decades. Just as importantly, he recognizes the benefit of joining a firm with the scale, infrastructure, and institutional stability that reinforces and enhances what he already does well.”
Zachary Wydra, Chief Executive Officer of First Manhattan
“Joining First Manhattan allows me to continue serving clients with the same investment philosophy that has defined my career. At the same time, the Firm’s research depth, operational strength, and integrated trust and wealth planning capabilities meaningfully broaden what we can deliver to clients over time. It was important to find a home that strengthens, rather than changes, how I invest and advise clients.”
